The popular turn-based RPG is currently in Version 2.2, an important patch for the storyline. This is the update that brings the final main story missions in the Penacony arc, several types of events and map expansions, as well as the introduction of the playable versions of Boothill and Robin in Honkai: Star Rail.
Although a lot of players’ attentions are turned toward the current patch and its contents, some eyes are turning toward what is to arrive in the next update, predicted to occur in mid-June. Information obtained by the reputable leaker known as HomDGCat was shared in a post tagged as “Reliable” on Reddit. The leak features three new 5-star Light Cones planned to arrive with Version 2.3, two of which are directly linked to the new and already confirmed 5-star characters, Firefly and Robin. These two will be their respective signature Light Cones, while the third and final Light Cone is rumored to be called Eternal Calculus. This is the 5-star Light Cone that is rumored to be a free item in Honkai: Star Rail.
Firefly’s leaked signature Light Cone is said to be called Whereabouts Should Dreams Rest, while Jade’s leaked Light Cone is rumored to be named Yet Hope Is Priceless.
Why The New 5-Star Light Cone In Honkai: Star Rail 2.3 Is Likely Free
Obtaining The New Item Requires Some Work
There are a few reasons that can lead to the understanding that Eternal Calculus will be a free 5-star Light Cone aside from the leaks that state that very fact. The first, which can be observed through HomDGCat’s leak, is that the non-specific artwork for the item resembles those of several other free 5-star Light Cones in the game, such as On The Fall Of An Aeon, Cruising In The Stellar Sea, Texture Of Memories, and Solitary Healing. These 5-star Light Cones can be obtained for free by exchanging them for Herta Bonds in Honkai: Star Rail.
While the leaked artwork for Eternal Calculus alone is not enough to determine that it will fall under the same category as these aforementioned free 5-star Light Cones, obtainable by challenging Herta’s Simulated Universe, it does seem like a lot more than a simple coincidence.

None of the current free 5-star Light Cones are of the Path of the Erudition like Eternal Calculus, so its addition could complement the roster of available items to pick from, especially for players who are F2P (free-to-play) and do not invest actual money into Honkai: Star Rail.
While not the absolute best for all characters, these free 5-star Light Cones tend to be great alternatives to some of the BiS (best-in-slot) Light Cones for some builds.
The connection between the leaked Eternal Calculus and Herta’s Simulated Universe does not end on the aesthetic aspect, however. There is yet another leak obtained by GuraLeak, which was shared in another post tagged as “Reliable” on Reddit.
In it, GuraLeak details an event in Version 2.3 called Divergent Universe, expected to be an alternative mode within the broader Simulated Universe. It is uncertain if it will be an Expansion Module like Swarm Disaster, but the rumored new version of the Simulated Universe in Honkai: Star Rail may be the key to unlocking the leaked 5-star Light Cone for free.
The post features an image of the event card for Divergent Universe and, listed among its rewards is a small icon of what looks like Eternal Calculus itself. If both leaks are true, then it seems like attending some prerequisite within Divergent Universe is what will unlock Eternal Calculus.
It is uncertain if the free 5-star Light Cone will be given immediately upon completion or if players will unlock the ability to purchase it with Herta Bonds, much like the other free 5-star Light Cones in Honkai: Star Rail. There is a chance that the first copy will be free, while the next ones, used to Superimpose the original, must be purchased from the Simulated Universe’s shop, but that is mere speculation for now.

Erudition Light Cone Benefits Some Older Characters
According to the leak provided by HomDGCat, Eternal Calculus is a Light Cone from the Path of the Erudition, meaning its effects only activate when equipped by a character from that same Path. The leaked free 5-star Light Cone is rumored to offer 1058 HP, 529 ATK, and 396 DEF (at level 80).
Its power, however, lies in its alleged Superimposition ability. The leak mentions that, when equipped, Eternal Calculus increases the user’s ATK by 8% (12% at S5). The user, however, can reach an even higher ATK boost when using this leaked Light Cone in Honkai: Star Rail.
Eternal Calculus’ leaked ability also mentions that when the user attacks, it increases their ATK by 4% (8% at S5) for every target hit. The effect can stack up to five times and lasts until the user’s next attack.
Additionally, the leaks say that when three or more enemies are attacked, the user’s SPD is increased by 8% (16% at S5) for one turn. If true, Eternal Calculus’ effect is very good for several Erudition characters who are capable of attacking multiple targets at once, such as Herta and Himeko.
Even if not their best Light Cone, Eternal Calculus could be a viable 5-star alternative for some of these characters. While the upcoming character Jade does, indeed, follow the Path of the Erudition, she is rumored to be a specialist in follow-up attacks in Honkai: Star Rail rather than a traditional multi-target DPS unit.
This leaked Light Cone alone may be just enough to bring back some Erudition characters that were otherwise stored away without much usage, as the maximum ATK boost can be rather significant, especially at Superimposition level 5.
