This week the #CentersforMedicaidandMedicareServices (CMS) finalized the biggest regulatory change to hit nursing facilities in more than 30 years: a minimum staffing requirement. This regulation will go a long ways toward improving the quality of care for residents. It will also disrupt the industry, requiring the majority of nursing facilities to recruit -- and retain -- more staff. How will they do it? Forward looking organizations will focus on building cultures of high quality care that attract and energize staff. They know that culture is what determines whether a care professional stays or leaves their job. Everyone is safer and everyone benefits when there are enough trained staff to run complex healthcare settings - whether nursing, assisted living, or memory care facilities. I'm hopeful that this new regulation will improve quality across the board. #livewellmethod #CNA #qualityimprovement #longtermcare #CMShttps://lnkd.in/gFNx6X9i

BREAKING: CMS issues first-ever nursing home staffing mandate#Nursinghomes would have at least 3 years to provide a minimum of 3.0 hours per patient day of direct care, 0.55 hours of that by a #registerednurse and 2.45 hours by a nurse aide per. Non-rural nursing homes would have 3 years to comply with some elements of the rule, with rural facilities given five years to get up to speed on the overall hourly rate.A requirement calling for 24/7 RN coverage, triple the current standard, would go into effect two years after the rule is finalized for urban providers, with another year granted to rural providers. The proposal does include an option for hardship waivers. To see the CMS press release, go here » https://go.cms.gov/3Pjs29Ehttps://bit.ly/45TLYFG

The recently announced minimum staffing rule now requires 3 hrs and 48 minutes of direct patient care per patient, per day. The ruling also indicates 3.0 of those hours must be split between registered nurses at 2.45 hours and 0.55 hours for certified nurse aides. Where will this time come from amidst staffing challenges? 1 place is a reduction in non-direct patient care time. Hucu can deliver this, saving up to 2 hours per caregiver per shift of time wasted chasing information and communication.Visit Hucu.ai to learn how over 100s of other post-acute-care organizations are achieving this and other efficiencies with Hucu.https://lnkd.in/gXUQ3FHzMcKnight's Long-Term Care News StartUp Health #postacutecare

Growing up, I’ve had the privilege of seeing the LTC industry from a different lens than others. With a nationwide labor shortage, many LTC facilities are struggling to find workers to meet their state's current requirements. This is leading to reduced resident care, increased workloads for staff, and countless facility closures. In addition, government staffing mandates and regulations are often unrealistic and inflexible, making it even more difficult for LTC facilities to hire and retain staff. For example, the Biden Administration is considering a federal staffing mandate that would require LTC facilities to have a certain number of nurses on staff at all times. While at the surface this may sound like a normal thing to implement, this would be impossible for many facilities to comply with, and it would likely lead to even more closures. We need to find a better way to address the staffing crisis in LTC facilities. This includes providing more funding for training and development programs, reducing the crazy regulatory hurdles that burden LTC facilities, and showcasing that these facilites are not a place where “people go to die”, and are rather places where hardworking individuals care and support people who aren’t fully capable of helping themselves.

Where will these staff come from? Let’s place emphasis on making the role of healthcare worker in facilities desirable, well-paid and respected. Where is the legislative efforts for that? You can mandate all you want, but without the right steps behind it, you are only crippling a massively hurting industry.

' and the Biden Administration's response to the nursing staffing/nursing school shortage, which is hurtling the US towards a healthcare access crisis, is to impose staffing minimums on skilled nursing industry that are impossible to meet (and increasingly so per the below) and that are designed to destroy the industry and leave the elderly in the US without care during their twilight years......WHAT IS WRONG WITH THE BUREAUCRATS AT CMS AND THE PRESIDENT?!?!??!?Can they not interpret the data in the article below? Where is the disconnect? Where is the accountability?#skillednursing #eldercarehttps://lnkd.in/gPq2E6f2
